1900 - 1920

  • 1903 - Buick incorporates and moves from Detroit to Flint.
  • 1904 - Buick produces a total of 37 Model B Touring Cars rated at 15 to 21 hp.
  • 1907 - MODEL YEAR. The Model D—Buick's first 4-cylinder—debuts with a 3-speed, sliding gear transmission.
  • 1908 - MODEL YEAR. Buick surpasses Ford and Cadillac as the number one producer of vehicles at 8,820 units.

1921 - 1940

  • 1923 - Buick builds its one-millionth vehicle just shy of its 20th birthday.
  • 1925 - MODEL YEAR. Buick stops production of 4-cylinder engines and introduces the 6-cylinder Standard Six economy line.
  • 1936 - MODEL YEAR. The new Buick Century—powered by an inline 8-cylinder engine with 120 bhp—sees sales of 28,890 units.
  • 1938 - Deemed "The World's First Concept Car," the sleek black two-passenger Y-Job convertible debuts.

1941 - 1960

  • 1941 - MODEL YEAR. The first Buick Super is introduced with its 125 bhp straight 8-cylinder engine.
  • 1942 - Wartime affects the entire U.S. as Buick builds over 2,500 M18 Hellcat tank destroyers.
  • 1949 - MODEL YEAR. Portholes make their debut on the fenders of all Buick vehicles, including the Roadmaster Convertible.
  • 1950 - MODEL YEAR. The Riviera becomes a Super—and a full-size coupe. The Super Riviera Coupe hits the road with a 124 bhp inline (straight) eight-cylinder engine.
  • 1953 - MODEL YEAR. Buick's 50th anniversary car—the Roadmaster Skylark Convertible—debuts at a base price of $5,000.
  • 1959 - MODEL YEAR. The Electra 225, at 225 inches in length, debuts with three body styles and a 401 overhead valve V8 engine.
